Oct 24, 2012

The Doctorate Programme in Cultural Studies – shared between the Universities of Aveiro and Minho – will hold its Third International Congress, focusing on Leisure Studies and Free Time in Contemporary Culture. The event will take place at the Department of Language and Culture, at the University of Aveiro, on the 28th and 29th of January, 2013. The Call for Papers will be open between the 1st of November and the 7th of December, 2012. The selected authors will be able to register up until the 4th of January, 2013. More information is available on the website, under ‘Registration’ and ‘Call for Papers’.

The theme of this Third Congress marks the creation of a core research group for Cultural Studies and Leisure Studies, which forms parts of the Research Centre of the Department of Language and Culture at the University of Aveiro (CLC). This core research group has also been integrated to OTIUM – Associación Iberoamericana de Estudios de Ocio – which is part of the World Leisure and Recreation Association (WLRA).

This event is yet another example of the international nature of the Doctoral Programme in Cultural Studies.  Since its inaugural academic year (2010/2011), approximately one hundred students, from various countries have been orientated by the Programme, in a wide range of disciplines, including Arts, Communication, Cinema, Theatre, Literature, Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Public Administration, Education and Tourism.
